Recommended excursions

Versilia is not only sea so once removed swimsuit and flip-flops to replace them with backpackers and comfortable sneakers, you can start to discover walking and hiking trails in the nearby Alps. These mounts offer splendid landscapes of the valley and surrounding woods.

Particularly interesting is the loop trail between Stazzema and Refuge Forte dei Marmi lasting about 2h30′, this excursion, accessible to all, runs through the rugged panorama of the local mountains at the foothills of the Apuan Alps. Along the way can be admire the sheer wall of Mount Nona and the great mass of Mount Procinto, believed for years of diabolical origin because of the particular totally vertical shape.

More challenging is the route that starting from the locality of Pomezzana reaches 1139 m of Mount Callare del Matanna and then descends to the Foce del Pallona and the Foce di San Rocchino returning to the starting point in the center of the town. To complete the journey takes about 6h30′.

Alternatively you can choose to start from Stazzema and climb towards Alpe delle Grotte up to the summit of Mount Nona 1297 m from where you have a wonderful view of the valley below. The trail descends along the Foce delle Porchette to return to the village about 5h40′ after the departure.

Are similarly suggestive also boat trips, away from the coast you can go fishing and have fun with the jet ski or visit the beautiful tuscan archipelago with a motorboat. You will be able to see the islands Elba, Pianosa, Montecristo, Capraia, Gorgogna, Giannutri and Giglio. In this area there is also the Cetacean Sanctuary, an area of the sea where can be see dolphins and whales.
